This feature here is both an article and ode to one of the greatest emcees of all time Big L. Let’s take it back to circa 1990’s when Big L also known as Lamont Coleman first started getting out on the scene expressing his now known ill lyrical style and amazing flow. In 1995 Big L released his debut album “Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous” which did well and included hit tracks like “Put It On”, “No Endz, No Skinz and “M.V.P”. I remember the reaction I had when first bumping these tracks back then, I was like wow this goes hard! Big L had flow that was very precise and his lyrics would draw you into every track. One of my personal favorite tracks will always be “Street Struck” because I can remember being able to relate to what Big L was saying and it really educated you on how to make smart decisions in the world. Another noteworthy track fans will always hold in high regard is the 7 minute Big L and Jay Z freestyle. Both artist did phenomenal on the freestyle and as usual Big L had non stop lyrical fire and flows. Sadly Big L was killed in 1999. Not long after the success of his debut album we lost another legend in hip hop. Big L’s music will always live on and he is still one of the most underrated emcees of all time. I would personally like to see a Big L documentary that takes us through his life and times in honor of him and his great music. Big L still to this day inspires many new artist and will always get rotation in my daily music listening. Hip hop heads remember Big L and get a feel of that real hip hop movement. The thing is people sleep on this man if you asked any rapper or hip hop artist in the game they should defiantly know who Big L is period..... if not they are just a patty cake artist, with no love for the game. Another one of my favorite song is called Ebonics he brought the slang out and introduced it to the world. Take some time and check the verse!
